The Missoni interior

Italian colour, set against the blue of the marina

“Closer to Blue” is the line the launch is built around, and it works on two levels. The building sits directly on the main marina of Island A, with the water at its edge. And the interiors are by a design house whose whole history is about putting colour next to colour until something new appears.

  1. Colour

Missoni built its name on colour used with confidence. Inside The Bay, colour is the starting point of the interior language rather than an accent added at the end.

  2. Pattern

The house is known worldwide for its zigzag and striped knits. Pattern is named by the partners as one of the four pillars carried into the residences.

  3. Texture

A fashion house thinks in fabric first. Texture – how a surface feels as much as how it looks – is part of the brief for every interior.

  4. Craftsmanship

OCTA Properties, as Missoni’s appointed project representative, oversees how Missoni’s design elements are implemented right through to completion.

The Missoni material board

Living rooms, dining areas and kitchens combine oak wood effect porcelain, Missoni chevron porcelain pattern tiles, travertine effect engineered stone, Persian blue stone effect porcelain and Missoni wall coverings, finished with fine-brushed stainless steel, oak veneer and mirrored glass. Bedrooms and bathrooms carry the chevron pattern through with Missoni wall coverings, imitation travertine, marble effect porcelain and a water-resistant Bluemarine finish. Ceilings rise to 3 m in living rooms and bedrooms, and every kitchen has Bosch (or equivalent) appliances.

Who is Missoni?

Missoni was founded in Italy in 1953 by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni and became famous for its colourful, patterned knitwear, the zigzag above all. The company is headquartered in Sumirago, near Varese. For this project, Missoni’s chief executive Livio Proli has described the residences as bringing contemporary Italian living to the marina – “an expression of a lifestyle”.

A single connected corridor

The corridor runs along the inner side of the building, behind the marina-facing homes, so living rooms and balconies keep the outward frontage. Instead of a back-facing row of apartments, every home looks out to the sea, the amenity deck or the city and the 7,858 sq ft park next door.

A typical floor (5th to 13th) has six 2-bedroom Type 1 homes, one each of Types 2, 3 and 4, and two 3-bedroom homes.

Location

On the main marina of Island A, Dubai Islands

The Bay sits on plot DIA-MU-N01, directly fronting the Island A yacht marina next to the main yacht club. Only 14 of the 253 plots on Island A – 5.5% – face the marina, a position OCTA Properties’ chief executive, Fawaz Sous, called one that “simply cannot be recreated”.

Dubai Islands is the island district off Dubai’s northern coast, formerly known as Deira Islands. Its masterplan brings together homes, hotels, branded residences, beaches, golf and marinas, with water transport, coastal parks and cycling and walking paths planned across the islands. Tomorrow World’s chairman, Xu Ma, has called the district an essential part of Dubai’s next phase of growth.

For residents of The Bay, the marina is the neighbourhood. The yacht marina was built to take 13 superyachts at a time alongside 248 wet berths for vessels up to 47 metres, with gated access, 24/7 dock assistance and direct access to the open sea. The neighbouring block on the seaward side is capped at G+6, so from around the 8th floor up the sea-facing homes look clear over it to the marina, the breakwater and open water.
